Has anyone ever seen the television show titled "Hoarders?" It's focus is on a select group of people who have an obsession with collecting useless stuff and never getting rid of it.
I only bring that up to bring this up: There are way too many ships out here hiding behind traps! Don't get me wrong. I've been guilty of it as well and they have saved my hull on numerous occasions but some ships seem to have a perpetual Halcyon or Krionus Trap on them at any given time.
Far be it from me to suggest getting rid of them all together, I've just come up with a better solution to this nuisance, for lack of a better term.
There should be a risk of penalty when using the same trap over and over again. The same way a module loses 10% of it's effectiveness when uninstalled, there should also be some type of penalty when using a trap too often.
Omicron Mine Trap Used too often, this can cause an Omicron radiation leak and can slowly deteriote a hull for X amount of time. This could be represented best by putting a timer next to the hull bar and showing the slow progession of hull damage.
Krionus Virus Trap Will cause a feedback virus and take away 90% Defense
Halcyon Trap Will cause you to show up on more battle tabs and ups other ships chances of critical hit on you.
Quantum Firewall Trap Causes you to lose 2x more research points when hacked.
Just a suggestion.

sorry -1 i agree with commonwealth. pretty much what youre asking for are easier kills of people lower than you. either use a null fuse, or suck it up and wait. or whimp out and give up pvp.

I'm glad everyone is having such a good luck drawing fuses. I have not and I have not gotten one in about a week. I have 2500 per hour Artifact production you would think I would get one.

i think you get less of the artifacts you use. i love getting cargo expanders, and rarely get them. i never use fuses, because i think it shows lack of patience and weakness in a player, so i have several stacked up that i only use if im kvd and a boss is shared.

i thought i would never use them, then there was an annoying legion, all 12 used in less than 5 minutes, worth it though

You guys must get picked on a lot. I have my fair share of moments and God knows I use my fair share of traps but the occasional bad dice roll would simply force people to come online more often and defend their ships.
Actually my biggest gripe was simply the ships that hide behind traps altogether. It does make me want to give up the PvP sometimes which is something the Powers That Be do not want. Hence the reason for the Badge system, I think.
Still, you all make valid points.

I don't now about that. I have a ridiculous amount of Tachyon Cylinders and I rarely if ever use those.

I disagree, I think that people who are on the most often would be the worst with traps because they could immediately replace an expended trap where someone who doesn't get on as often is left open to attack for at least some period of time until they get online again. Plus I'm not sure how you can expect people to "defend their ships" as the attacker is completely favored in that they have had time to prepared themselves for combat where as the defender is caught totally by surprise with no time to prepare. So what else can somebody who has real life responsibilities, who enjoys playing the game, and doesn't want to get pillaged everyday do other than set traps?

EDIT: Nevermind my first part.
It seems unlikely that whether or not you use artifacts doesn't affect how many of them you get. It doesn't sound entirely like you get less of what you use, just that you have less of them (because you used them).

I have to agree with raven, because traps are not meant to be permanent defenses, but for protection while one is not playing the game. Just earlier today, I was fighting a rank 130 player (I am rank 104) and received 3 traps. I used the 2 null fuses I had, and waited the half-hour on the krionus virus, only to receive another trap >.> That's the kind of thing that I think raven is trying to prevent here.

I think there is way too many traps as well. Its almost impossible for me to get kills. Im over rank 400 and there is none stop traps. I want to be able to climb to the top of the kill leader board. Null fuses are nice but they are too rare. I get over 7k artifacts per hour. I know Dan needs to make his money, but dang... where is the fun at? I have a solution to all of the trap problems. Here is the link. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4774

when youre killing more than 30-40 a day you usually find one a day. when you kill 4 or 5 hundred, THATS when you really start alrting em.

Starting to stray off topic, but I will say this much. I just passed 7000 NPC kills and on a decent day (nearly full charge and a level up) I'll share 2 or 3 myself. On a REALLY good day, I manage to get an Elitapalooza where all 4 of my slots are filled with elite/bosses. You'll get to the point where Lazuli's are just boringly easy to kill and hope to get some of the better NPCs.

Getting back on topic, I'm not saying that the my suggestion be implemented ad nauseum. I'm just saying, there should be a risk factor. I don't know if any of you are prior military but ask someone who handles explosives just how easily those things can go off.
The negative roll with the traps would add a little more realism to the game and really make you think twice if you're using traps as a part of your active defense.
I'm just sayin'.
