Even better - you find that rare Aidonium asteroid - Defense 200 - and you hit it with a blast from your stack of weapons totaling 2000 - "The asteroid explodes! You're too busy trying to stay alive and fix things to gather up any of the fragments! Your ship is disabled!" IOW - if you hit an asteroid of certain compositions too hard, they explode on you! Not just Aidonium, maybe Darrinyte [we've already got a mission about how explosive this stuff is] or Pawlacite [Again, it's got to be hot stuff if it can thaw a planet!]

 I love how much people like this idea. My last 2 didn't get much feed back. Anyway, on the rarity I was thinking along the same lines, maybe a tweak or so but still good. Sizes contribute to the number you gain from destroying it. small 0-40 average 40-75 large 75-100 Planet Destroyers could give a very large amount. depending on the asteroid it could give only a certain kind, or maybe multiple kinds of minerals. (random draw from the list maybe)

I came up with their own abilities
dynite-none chrisium-shard splash- small shards will fly off causing minor damage (5% of your hull darrinyte- revenge- lowers hull by 10% for 10 minutes Hydium-shock absorber- increases defense by 25% for 5 minutes Erixon- multi-shock-5% increase to attack and defense Pawlacite-explosion- causes massive damage dieterian- Freeze- asteroid shards get attached to your ship, not allowing you to attack for 5 minutes dysillon- Booster-doubles attack and defense for 10 minutes kurinite- reflection- chance of reflecting damage back to the attacker aidonium- shock absorber, reflection, booster, shard splash, and multi-shock
the names might not be that good though, also i like that idea reach

One of the other ways it could actually have an attack value is if you are attacking the mining outpost ON the asteroid, maybe even make it so you have to defeat the defenses, and then raid the base. Your raid would be based on your normal raiding numbers.

i like it, having to raid the astroid, but it should have a different name than raid, it is not like your fighting a crew, i think the correct term would be mine

I like the idea of being able to use energy to obtain an extra bit of xp and minerals, but I definitely do NOT like the idea of cluttering up the battle tab.
+1 to adding this as a variable cost mission depending on the mineral. -1 to having to wade through space rocks when I'm looking for NPCs to hunt.
