New ship Pic every time it increases in size class

Some of the starting races definitely need new ships, even if there aren't upgrades or anything like that. As a Vygoid I look like I'm flying around in dumpsters, welded together.
Some of the character avatars could use a re-do too, considering how much better some of the later ones look.
And this wouldn't even be just a 'give me free stuff' sort of comment either. Better-looking ships and race avatars could help keep new players. The very first thing you do in the game is select your race, and I have to admit, when I first started playing, I thought the avatars looked cheaply done. I kept playing because the game has such interesting mechanics, but I'm also 31 years old and am used to text-based games without flashy graphics. Other folks might not be, so much.

Aelfscine def does have a point. the races and ships kinda do need a redo, nothing flashy or over the top, but a minor make over would be nice. lol Queer eye for the straigh Konqul. lol id pay to watch that.

The top one is BEAST. I would love a ship like that. The other three are sort of tacky, but they're not that bad. I think this is the next big update Dan should add to the game.

This is something I thought was actually in the game when i started playing lol. I was like hmm expand deck size....make the ship bigger! awesome! And then it never happened...
But on this same note, I like how the legion bases are. I like that every few levels or whatever you can choose a new design, I think it should be like this in regards to personal ships. Every time you reach a new size class you get a new list of options from which to choose from. Right now I'm back to being Vygoid and it's pretty depressing. You can tell this was an original ship model, it looks nowhere near as detailed or as cool as some of the newer races that have come out.
I would also really like to see the weapons/hull etc. change as you upgrade them. You spend all this time upgrading your ship, of course you want it to look awesome. Fear and intimidation can go a long way if your ship looks like it shouldn't be messed with.

not that im throwing down your idea bob, but if you could see what weapons were on your ship then it would make the Probes almost useless, because people could be like, Oh he has a weapon i havnt even seen yet, we probly shouldnt mess with it. i mean they'd leave ya alone but it would eliminate some of the mystery of the game. i mean nobody likes comming across someone who has a good cloak but it turns out they have great weapons. i mean say i came across you and i was stronger than you but i didnt know it bc your cloak is way to awesome and i have no probes to search you out. but i look at your pic and you still have, lets say, lazers. then id be like, oh you done. idk if im making myself clear...

Um are you guys even thinking -1 because having to construct different ship images for every race would take atleast a month or more. Dan still is working on Base combat and most likely hopefully a planet trade system and a War System.

a planet trade system seems a wee bit odd considering the share ability, altho the war system is probly around the top of the list. still different ship pics would be nice when he has the time and its not like he'd have to do them all at once.

weapons are usually the first thing to be seen on a ship, so i dont think its really a big deal if its displayed in ur ship pic. also, once you get past level 350, everyone has the same guns, or at least has researched all the same guns, so it dosnt matter if other players see em. its all about how many tac officers you decided to pile on your ship. i do wish we could at least change the color of our hull and shields. at the very least that seems reasonable. Dan still is working on Base combat and most likely hopefully a planet trade system and a War System. point 1) base combat is practically done, hes just testing it out. point 2) war system is the same as base combat point 3) really? a month is a long time? it took close to 4 for bases to be released. one month is NOTHING. point 4) planet trade system is already in the works, and im guessing itll come out after governments. theres no harm in suggesting big updates. if everyone was afraid that it might be too much to handle, there would be no big updates because there would be no suggestions. i would still like to see some kind of ship pic customization in the future, even if it is slated at the bottom of the list, cause at least then itll be in the list.

The suggestion forums are for....suggestions, they don't expire, they don't spoil after time. The legion bases sat in this very forum for almost a year before they were implemented. The ideas are placed here by us, the players, and Dan can decide whether or not he wants to use the idea whenever he wishes. So -1 to your -1 sir.
As for the images of the ships in regards to weapons and defenses I thought about this also, but the probes are mostly a novelty item as it is, I scrap hundreds of them at a time. If someone needs to be attacked I honestly don't care what their ship has, I don't think I have even used those probes for anything.
But to keep the idea in the game, just let the weapons and defenses be a visibility option, so you can go cloaked or full visibility. If you want to keep it a secret, just don't turn them on. This could also add an element of mystery to the game, maybe you want to invade a base and look mean so you buy awesome weapons and turn on your graphics. But then it turns out you can't afford the upkeep or something so you turn the option off and remove them, then no one knows what you're doing or what you actually have. It could be interesting.

+1 for redoing the starter races' avatars and default ship designs.
But I hate to say this but I have to, I don't agree with the OP though, as awesome as it would be for your ship to unlock a new larger looking version of your ship, think about how many models that would have to be made while keeping the same distinguishing flavour; lets do the math:
-There are 30 ship classes in the game from the lowly scout all the way to the colossal galaxy destroyer, -Along with 16 playable races in total, we'll even include the 13 unlockable ship designs (including the dark smuggler) to have larger looking variants as you grow larger while using an unlockable ship design as well. Coming to a total of 29
So that would be 30 X 29 = 870 different ship designs!
Dan already lazily copies/pastes parts of an existing NPC to make one larger variant of said NPC (The Dark Warper and the Xavox come to mind) and often re-uses the same design with minor detail changes (Such as RSL Research probes that you find early in the game and all its variants) or no change at all (such as Hawks to Flamehawks); so I really don't think he'd want to bother with this. Sorry to crush the idea.
As much as I like the idea, I doubt it would be implimented, ever. +1 anyway..

just doing the same model in difrent collor scemmes like this doesnt realy work for me and no matter how simpel you think the mods are it's still 30 difrent ships, that need to be slightly changed in 29 difrent ways as the size increase if it takes 1 hour pr picture to get it right, you are looking at 870 hours of work, or around 21-23 weeks if we presume Dan works 37 to 40 hours pr week on this game... that's close to 6 months without any new Missions, artifacts, NPC's etc etc etc I do like the idear, but a still a -1 from me, as I think theire are a few other things Dan need to work on before doing a project that have absolutly no ingame efect and doesnt realy add anything new to the game.

Just to point out, a friend of mine is into his concept art and graphical stuff, I have seen him design games and images from scratch, one guy working on it 9-5 would easily have it done within a week. Thats a new ship for each of the starting races and maybe new avatars. Besides for the class sizes, all he might have to do is slightly change the size or colour of the panels of the ship which I know myself is pretty easy... so there is little excuse for why something so simple couldn't be introduced...
