any chance of introducing small daily variations in mineral pricing?

no economy has ever had that kind of stability. it is also kind of boring seeing the same prices for the same commodities day in and day out.

this may encourage some players to hold on to minerals longer than they would normally. this tactic would have inherent risks of course, associated with being raided. it may encourage more raiding.

I believe that is because it's set at the minimum price, as the epic players are selling it off in the thousands. as they are mostly used in levels lower than 40, everyone above that is selling more than the noobs can take. Therefore, they are bought dirt cheap (as it is as common as dirt from high levels).

thats definitely not their minimums, in the begening....
Dynite=10
Chrisium=100
Darrinyte=1,000
Hydium=5,000
Erixion=10,000
Pawlacite=50,000
Dieterion=150,000
Dysillon=500,000
Kurenite=1,000,000

now its...
Dynite=11
Chrisium=95
Darrinyte=1,151
Hydium=3,981
Erixion=6,862
Pawlacite=39,702
Dieterion=131,379
Dysillon=473,441
Kurenite=1,502,201

notice how kurenite and dynite are higher

if that is the case, then more minerals should be incorporated in the cost of outfitting. create a demand...

well the problem is that right now everything just cost more kurenite. s I think more minerals (not just one) should be added.

While I agree we need more minerals, I also agree we need more ship modules. If expendable drones/fighters were implemented as I suggested in the drones thread, it would create a continuous demand for minerals of all types at all levels.

Its interesting to hear there is some variability in the market though. I actually just posted elsewhere asking for it to be added lol.

I realize I'm resurrecting an old topic, but I really like this idea. There should be some fluctuation in the price of minerals. Even if it's just 10% in either direction max, it would add a whole new element of fun to this game!

Why? Because as technology increases, ship upgrades become obscenely expensive. For example, upgrading to Heavy Thetacron cannons will cost me 60.8 Billion (with a B), and will cost 1 Billion per day in upkeep (with the Fixer profession)!

This means it would take me about 2 months of real time to save up for these new weapons at about 1 Billion credits worth of income per day, which is a reasonable expectation at my current level (300+). And I certainly wouldn't MAKE any money after I installed those bad boys. Sure, I can come close to levelling from a single full tank of energy by killing NPCs, but it doesn't matter because I can't afford the 200 Million repair costs to keep it up. (Even with a fair share of nanodrones).

By adding fluctuation to to mineral prices, the player would then have some small measure of control over the money they were making. This would alleviate somewhat the frustration of insane upgrade prices at higher levels and make the game more fun.

What would make it even MORE awesome would be to add a 10% bargaining bonus to the Merchant profession, giving them extra cash when selling minerals. This would make tons of sense, since they already have 30% extra ship capacity, making Merchants ideal for holding onto minerals a little longer and selling them at better prices.

And Dan, need I mention that you could totally add an artifact to the Galaxy Point market that allows player profession changes? You're probably not hurting for cash, but you could make some serious money off players who want to change professions and will pay real money for an artifact that means they don't have to spend 2 months saving up the money for a single technology upgrade!!! (more exclamation points deserved but not included).

If you like this idea, please reply and say so. Let's get some momentum going!

Ok first off I love this idea as well and hope that Dan does make this happen. Could help a lot maybe have it change once a week and have it like the stock market with how much everything changed on the Galaxy new's. Something that looks like this

Dynite 15 (+)
Chrisium 85 (-)
Darrinyte 950 (-)
Hydium 4300 (+)
Erixion 7036 (+)
Pawlacite 37583 (-)
Dieterion 134538 (+)
Dysillon 435,789 (-)
Kurenite 2,048,156 (+)
Aidonium 16,458,456 (-)

Next you can change your race and profession by using GP's. lol

Thank you for chiming in, mojo. Comon Dan, you gots ta do this sh_t!

Also, I think the price would have to fluctuate hourly. Because even with 30% more cargo, you still don't have more than about 48 hours of wiggle room. At the very least it should fluctuate like twice daily. Good call on the stock market ticker. Dannnnnnnnnn!

That would help high levels justify how much cargo they have from MSPs; more room to stock up on minerals to make more money from them, which most high levels could use.

I already posted here a long while ago but my support continues. A fluctuating market would be a brilliant idea, and I like the way you represent it, Mojo, with the +/- signs and coloured highlights. The giving the Merchant profession a bonus is a good idea too, zapbrannigan.

+1 from me. Come on Dan, we've been asking for this for months now!

I know this thread is older then dirt but all the same with the GTS coming out (or so its said) I think this would be interesting to add in with that as it is still a great idea and would make the mining side of the game much more interesting. :D

I'd love to see the market functioning like this! I've never understood why it hasn't to be honest.

Even with a 6 hour roll to see if price goes up or down it could add something to the game that is not player controlled and potentially profitable (not game breakingly so of course) but a nice way to make a pretty penny!
+1

What you couldn't before?

I don't want the prices to change, the players market is screwing up the prices as is, adding even more instability might just completely remove ku from trades and then all we will have is em and ctp as a currency.

I don't agree with this if the prices change every six hours then players will be selling ku more or buying it more hoping to make a profit. I think if anything it would help the market more then hurt it.

I have to say I'd agree with Fluffy about market instability. Yes, people would buy low, sell high within their own cargo, but I think as a currency for trades, minerals would be forgotten. If I'm selling let's say 100 ctp, I don't want to be bothered with timing it so that I get the maximum value. Eventually people are going to say "Eff that, credits or hard merchandise." At best, credits would become the new currency and that brings in more conversion issues. And don't even say "when the GTC is added" because it's been "coming soon" for nearly a year now.
