Player Abilities
Abilities are gained automatically by choosing a certain race, or through the use of special artifacts which bestow the ability.
Abilities are usually accessed through an abilities button on the ship's tab or the planets tab, or enemies tab though in the future abilities may be accessed on the other tabs as well.
Using an ability has an immediate affect, some have an energy cost, and all abilities have a cool-down period before they can be used again. You do NOT have to wait before you use the Ability the FIRST time (except in the case of racial abilities IF you have used one of the other racial abilities and changed races within the cooldown time of the ability of your new race), and the cool down is only active AFTER usage, and once it is expired you can use the ability any time. The Mylari Artifact is effectively a one time usage ability with no cool down period.
Note: While initially All Abilities shared a global timer before they could be used again, they were changed to only use individual timers in the April 2011 Monthly Update. (Taltherian, Mylarai, Kronyn, Genetarr and Zolazin racial abilities still share a single cooldown timer, which your current race determines when you can use the racial again, not the cooldown of the last ability you used.)
