First of all, I never ever wasted any rank points into cargo space, heh. It's too easy to expand cargo from high artifact production. I have 840 all from tessacart and mass cargo artifact shipments. It could be more but I reduced my artifact threshold to 8k instead of 20k (didn't want more melters) to increase chance in obtaining quasi-expanders, terraformers, rescued prisoners (I LOVE THEM and got so many that really helps with decksize) and other cheap things..
Mixture of both cash and artifact shipment on strengthening the ship. High Artifact production really helps with improving your ship. I spent cash to strengthen my ship early on that I became youngest star destroyer at rank 95 cuz artifact production was low. I stopped spending any cash on strengthening ship ever since 95 cuz my artifact production helps to sustain my need of decksize expansion to support all modules (almost, just need 2 more shield modules but new NPC loot kept taking up space that I worked for from artifact shipments and NPC kills) of proper tech level. I could go sillix for bigger decksize but I sticked to Konqul since the creation cuz of roleplay and fits my personalty as die-hard PVP'er. I don't think I would never change the race/class. I probably would become only remaining Konqul at high rank where all would be vygoids.

That'll be fun. I am glad that the usefulness of being Konqul had increased when NPC came to GL.. It makes NPC battles alot easier and save lot of energy per kill (hint to those who are considering switching to Vygoid. I just am trying to keep race diversity in GL just to make things more colorful and interesting).
Toooo many players (90% of high rank players are vygoids as obvious example) focus too much in research getting their modules way too big relative to their ship size that haven't kept up with research tech and they complained how limited ship size is. I try to keep my AP = RP that helps to keep my ship size big enough to support tech-appropriate modules. It's nothing wrong for people to focus alot into research production.. Likewise, it's nothing wrong for players to focus alot into artifact production. It's just matter of preference. For me, I like the balance between ship strengthening (from artifact production) and researching. God, I wish that Dan change the raiding to allow me to steal artifact points (exactly the same function as hacking to steal research points) instead of most-useless mineral stealings that almost never happen..
Same thing. I had seen lot of players to spend lot of money into ranking up to 200 in no time flat that really kept their ship size the smallest at that rank level. I try to rank up slow to allow my high artifact production to increase my ship size large where I can enjoy fighting those of equal rank and NPCs that I can enjoy seeing more alerts.
One of biggest advantage of going after artifact planets is that artifact production has no limit and will continously strengthen your ship in size and crew without the limit while going after very high RP planets keeping artifact planet low will have its limit at the end cuz there are already few players hitting top tier research. Once players max out research then that player would have to make a big planet ownership change to artifact planets unless Dan decides to expand the research trees (I'm sure he will).
I have been keeping my eye on PSICORE for hint on next ship class name cuz he's currently on COLLOSSAL GALAXY DESTROYER. I'm sure next upgrade will be entirely new ship class and we all will know what it would look like.. CURIOUS!!!!
One of the main reason why I had my ship big early on was due to INTENSE PVP that I was in while building DOO up. I had to set an example and also present a strong foundation for DOO to build on by being unmovable rock. I also kept my rank low so I can fight those of equal or higher ranks yet my ship was much bigger. I am just tired of hearing those players yelling at me, "No fair! You are 50 ranks higher than me!!! Go bug them!" etc. Since my rank was low and usually lower than those players I fought then they couldn't blame me for high rank AT ALL. They just gulped that they were out-combat by a player of much lower rank. It was funny sight and I sure felt thrilled by besting many high rank players when I was sub 100 rank and the combat was very fun and rewarding. Since I ranked up little too fast than I wanted thanks to many neural interfaces that I got from artifact shipments, things are getting boring and there aren't many high rank players to fight against cuz they simply won't fight.. Remember, I don't strike first. I only fight if they strike me or my DOO members first.. But high rank players are very careful. So I was left to fight lower rank players that seems unfair but I was just lending my hand to support my DOO members in their fights. I plan to try to keep my rank much slower to climb to let many players to catch up their ranks. At the same time, my ship will be much bigger from artifact production while keeping rank low..
