Percentage based is best because NO other ship buff is stackable. To be fair you would have to change that (at least for scan) and you'd end up with all kinds of superbuffed ships running around and no one would be safe.

the timed buffs that are added directly to your ship from early missions are stackable with themselves...

But are limited in quantity. A stackable cloak buff would allow for unlimited hacking (at least till you get bunny locked), a stackable scan or attack buff means no planet is safe, etc... I think we can all agree that would seriously unbalance things...

From what it seems to be. I think you need the dark pyramid to have different ability for different levels. Like for
Level 1-50 +50 cloak
Level 51-100 +100 cloak
Level 101-200 +150 cloak
etc.

Maybe this would solve this level and usefulness dispute.

Straight percentage is easier to code and does a better job scaling.

Ok, Someone please educate me. So the general consensus is that you want a +15% cloaking buff for 1 hour... Cloak which is predominantly used For hacking defense/attack and avoiding the BT and perhaps if your really anal about a certain planet you can use it to hide your planet (easier ways to do this). how does a new arti that protects you for 1 hour help in any huge manner?

1 hour is not sufficent time to help due to the fact if your online and get attacked... throw some traps on... who ever is attacking will quit. nulls are too valuable.
If your offline... its likely for more then 1 hour.
so the BT thing is out.

whats left hacking defense/attack.
I'll start with attack. sha'din algorithm. the arti from the zolazin mission (30% cloaking for an ENTIRE day. CM able) but you would have to be online for this to be beneficial I.E hack someone.

Defense. again 1 hour...>.< i cant speak for anyone but myself but I'm on nearly the entire day. only time i log off is when i leave for several hours or go to sleep. so what is the intended purpose of this new mystery arti?

to me it seems like the only practical application for something like this would be to increase hacking ability generated from additional cloaking. but their are currently artifacts in place for something like that. Seems like a bunch of QQing over an arti that doesnt have much purpose without giving reasonable solutions. I agree with those before me that a % increase just widens the gap. perhaps make something along the lines of a crux amplifier in the arti lab though i still dont see much practical use besides hacking players.

No flaming, just a little exposition.... Only a couple people said anything about 1 hour. The current Dark Pyramid has an effect timer of 10 hours. By changing the current to a percentage based buff, you would get that extra cloak for said 10 hours which WOULD make a difference to many players who prefer not to wake up disabled every day.

So its a nice thing that almost everyone who saw this thread believes that the dark pyramid needs upgrading.

I would say the majority of players do not get to enjoy the game as often as you do. Wish i could. Most players go through a majority of the day away from the game so an enhanced cloaking buff could really benefit them. I remember back when i was still going through the research tree thinking to myself how weak cloak was becoming. It is always possible to have way more scan than cloak for most players so the +50 really doesnt help once you get above 100.

This is still the case in end game when you have gotten large enough to hold everything possible, but cloak helps in many more ways than just staying off of the BT. Counter hacking I would think would be the most beneficial. Sure it might be able to be removed with a missile (I really hope not though) but that is one more action the player has to perform against you.

Like you also stated it could help cloak planets. I am sure all of us a have a planet or 2 that we cannot make immune and dont want anyone to find. A little boost to help hide it doesnt hurt anyone.

I guess if you dont like it you dont have to use it but with every other stat out there having multiple buffs available it would be nice to see cloak get a little love this holiday season too.

this is something i can support because previous to this comment everyone has been saying it isnt just for the purpose of hacking. with a one hour timer there is no other purpose. so with this 10 hour timer suggested (theoretically) it could be used to help hide a person from the BT over night.

and in response to jason... yea im aware i play this game often but the point i was trying to make was that unless the timer was increased (which makes increasing the amount of cloaking ya get dicy) then the cloak has no other purpose then to hack an individual. and if this is the only purpose of the new artifact in the works well people are just QQing because there are currently other ways to do so.

summary. the timer would have to increase in addition to the artifacts bonus but not so much so that a player becomes permenantly invisible.

So the suggestions so far that seems to be appealing would be to make it a +50 +% for this artifact to really make a difference.
