Some variant of this idea has been suggested many-a-time, but hasn't been mentioned in a while.

Here's the idea:

Fighters are built and upgraded from the legion base, if it has a "Fighter Bay" installed.

Each one has a class and speciality. You unlock different classes/specialities in different ways.

For classes, you have to unlock them in that order (with the exception of rank based unlocks)

Specialities are like professions. Most ships get 1 or 0, but the strongest get 2.
There are no premium specialities.

Okay, so what do they actually do?

Each fighter has equipment slots and decks. These equipment slots can be used for Weapons, Defences, Hulls and Cloaks. Researched only. No cores/scanners/shields.
You can install your usual modules on the fighter. The fighter's attack and cloak is added to your own.
Hull and defence work slightly differently. Players can target the fighters instead of the player, in this, the total attack is still used, but it is now the fighter's defence/hull being used.

When destroyed, fighters are destroyed...

You can only have so many fighters per rank, probably about 1 fighter per 100 ranks.

Fighters would cost Androids (for crew - helmsmen or scientists depending on speciality) and ship-bots (# depending on class). Specialities will also use items such as minerals, exotic matter, complex tech, guard drones, etc. etc.

i like it except the part where u can get 1 every 10 ranks thats would really break the game :? something like 100 ranks seems a bit better :mrgreen:

10 ranks does seem alot... At 124 I'd be able to have 12 G-Class Bombers. Heavy antiprotons are 250 attack a go, x24=5100, *1.3=6630
WAYY overpowered.

Would racial bonuses count?

I actually like this idea +1 when i 1st saw it i didn't understand so i didn't post, but yeah it's a good idea. And with the pilots are they gonna be a new addition to crew, like tacticals, helms, engineers, and scientists. Coz if so that would be nice, not sure what they'd put up tho. Wait i know how about a new stat added, "Morale" the more morale the more damage u will do and visa versa. And this would be a nice addition to help lower ranks to kill higher ones if they took a planet from them.

I really do not see it fitting anywhere in the current base research tree. If you add it on to the end of the tree, it'd be useless to pretty much all but the highest ranking players, and to put in the middle wouldn't really make any sense.

People seem to have missed this can people tell me what they think. And someone else suggested the trained pilots i just improved on it.

In my original idea, I used androids as "crew" for the fighters, which were included in the build cost.

Yeah but adding "pilots" to crew would be a nice addition, coz morale i think would be awesome for battling, it would affect everything u do (except missions, so basically all battle style actions,pvp,npc,base combat). And the mods for pilot's could be researched, and have it's own tier, an example, mod:"Battle cry" size:20,limit 1 per ship. (insert name) just recieved a boost to morale. Increases konqul attack by 5%.
