i'm rank 738
without a doubt , if you don't have the creds , you can't advance
no mods no colonizing no repairing no upgrading no upkeep payment
so i say wholeheartedly , mining is supreme

my research and mining are both the same at 42k, research is needed if new tech comes out and mining is also needed if new tech comes out to cover your costs

At high rank it all becomes income, so RP technically has more uses. Mining only specifically yields EM which you can trade for. Above rank 500 , mining yields about 40k / mineral net, and RP gives a fixed 25k / unit. However, you can get a VM/gas and make it a plasma, vs. VL/toxic (possibly irradiated) , the toxic is easier to upgrade but if you 15x both planets, you'll get about the same credit yield (700-750 RP vs. 500 mining). Usually I prefer RP because my storage is higher on it, I have ~33k RP and 19k mining, and the mining is constantly filling up and being lost when I am at work or sleeping. Also I just hate having to collect several times due to cargo constraints; I prefer one click sell all RP no fuss.
But also I don't care about techs beyond a certain point the cost isn't worth the benefit, and I don't need logistics maxed. So for some RP is not really income if they have to have it all (heh you are losing trillions of credits on 5-10m techs, suckers).

For me, I reach cap for both under 8 hours and receive similar amounts of credit, but don't really need the credits. My upkeep is around 9 billion (I don't install the top modules. I don't believe the benefit to cost is worth it) and I receive 50+ billion a day. I'm not as far along as Frail and have almost twice his upkeep and still need 30 more days to use the research contract. I would suggest getting enough mining to cover your upkeep and a couple billion a day extra to afford new planets. By the time you finish all your research, the credits you get there will be gravy. If a new research tier comes out, you won't be putting your upkeep at risk by starting to research again. whats the average rank people get the research contract, im rank 449 and im getting y contract in about 15 days

I am rank 444- i got research contract about 30 or 40 levels ago- have been playing for over 18 months- don't level all that quickly (obviously)
Tree- i get about 25% of my research from scientists- but have been collecting them for a long time and stopped adding research planets way back in the early 300's. I have approx 12k research per hour- and 3k scientists
although i have the research contract option- i have never used it yet- just a fraction off ending my ship research- and need at least one more tier of base research
Mining delivers more bang for your planet and is easier to grow via toxic/harvesters
research- meeh- need it but not a priority. haven't abandoned any research planets- but might think about it later- much later. have some weak ones i could live without

Are you saving up for a Death Star? Hahahha. That is impressive. Perhaps I was ill-informed, but word came to me not to go over 25k minerals (focusing on all Artri after that). It is plenty enough for the ship daily and plenty enough to build reserve credits for planet steals or new tech. But, I ain't on your rank level so I won't doubt your skillz.

Why sure there is a reason to pass them up; to save that same planet slot for an artifact planet. And when you think about his colonization costs, that planet would have to pay for itself 100 times over just to break even; where as the arti planet would have produced who knows how many helmsmen or res prison or whatever.

If you're turning the Toxic into a 15x or 16x Mining planet it's not a problem, and if you're worried about planet slots at that point you probably have too low of standards.

Why does every comment have to turn into a personal attack on here? Hahhahaha. It still amazes me how the forum goes so side tracked. If you see my first post, I admitted I am not rank 1200, only 750; so there are things he may be aware of that I am not. And thus, I would not doubt his skillz. Second, you agreed that 25k is plenty. And, we all know that Arti is supreme, so it just stands to reason that if you have more than enough mining, don't take more mining planets.

This is my feeling also. I could make a bunch more 15/16x toxics myself but as i'm close to the 25k mark on mining and almost done with research and will be getting another 18B a day from that, reducing invasion cost seems the most efficient to me. I'm not saying I won't make anymore toxics along the line or take a good one if I see it but for the moment, I'd like to have as many artifact planet slots as I can. At some point, a 100 ap/hour planet is worth way more than a 300 mp/hour planet and I think I'm at that point.

FerrusManus wrote: Why can't you have both? And why are you only getting 300 mining from them? Toxics only come in artifact VA at best I think. And unless you are making a 33x/37x/32x rift, using a terraformer on a toxic planet seems like a waste. And you're right, I get 400 on the low end and ~700 on the high end. I am out of stripcore mines, XTS-10 and other limited arties that would make them produce better. All that being said, I would still take a 100 AP planet over a 400 MP one at the moment if I had to choose.
