Ok, this is coming from someone who has seen several "active" base defenses first hand. When the Triumvirate would hit Ni or THB we had to deal with constant counter attacks. Same goes for them when they would lock us. We're pretty much all on each others BT's all the time. Not hard to find each other. Guess what? Makes no difference.
You guys are always looking at it from the "Top 10" point of view, so to speak. You get attacked by ships that are in your battle tab. That's well and good but it doesn't work the same for those of us in Middle Space. I have to constantly deal with NI, CN, COI, Chesterton Academy, etc., constantly sweeping in and disabling our base along with upstart legions who's ranks are so low they don't even appear on the BT of my lowest ranking ships. What's worse, sometimes those upstart legions are just as dangerous because of the amount of battle pacts they have. What's more, it is infuriating not being able to see the face of your enemy; it is extremely annoying not to be able to hit back. When it happens with a ship you can fire instantly even if it's been a few hours since said ship disabled you. By all rights, a "Space Station" should have just as much if not more of an ability to track ships that attack it or, at the very least identify the ships.
As is such, our bases cannot automatically do this so the Distress Signal artifact would, at the very least, let you know which ships were the ones doing the damage. That's enough for us smaller legions who are just keeping a tab of those larger ships that disable us.
