Instead of using alerts to make targets available, there could be a list in the base battle window of "Active Defenders" and "Active Attackers." You may attack anyone on this list within [xx]% of your rank.

This 1.) prevents combat after the base battle is over, 2.) makes participation optional for both legions, 3.) prevents a player's log from getting spammed with base battle alerts, and 4.) makes the entire process cleaner and simpler.

Also, as for the calming amps/halcyons, why not just make attacking a base an offensive action? If you think about it, you are harming a player's arti/res/min production if you help to disable their base.

Ok, this is coming from someone who has seen several "active" base defenses first hand. When the Triumvirate would hit Ni or THB we had to deal with constant counter attacks. Same goes for them when they would lock us. We're pretty much all on each others BT's all the time. Not hard to find each other. Guess what? Makes no difference.

You guys are always looking at it from the "Top 10" point of view, so to speak. You get attacked by ships that are in your battle tab. That's well and good but it doesn't work the same for those of us in Middle Space. I have to constantly deal with NI, CN, COI, Chesterton Academy, etc., constantly sweeping in and disabling our base along with upstart legions who's ranks are so low they don't even appear on the BT of my lowest ranking ships. What's worse, sometimes those upstart legions are just as dangerous because of the amount of battle pacts they have. What's more, it is infuriating not being able to see the face of your enemy; it is extremely annoying not to be able to hit back. When it happens with a ship you can fire instantly even if it's been a few hours since said ship disabled you. By all rights, a "Space Station" should have just as much if not more of an ability to track ships that attack it or, at the very least identify the ships.

As is such, our bases cannot automatically do this so the Distress Signal artifact would, at the very least, let you know which ships were the ones doing the damage. That's enough for us smaller legions who are just keeping a tab of those larger ships that disable us.

Great Idea Raven....all the naysayers can pound sound in my opinion, anything that can improve the game and make it more active is an awesome idea.

What good would it do? So you get called back. Do you really think the ability to attack the top 5 or even 10 people on the damage list is going to make any difference? Aside from putting your ships on THEIR log for zeroing, that is... What happens when those players are all sporting CAmps? You literally can do nothing but twiddle your thumbs.

I know it won't do any good. I know it would've been futile to try and defend my base against the combined might of Unknown and Dysonians. I know it would've put me and mine in harms way but goddamn it! It would've at least felt good to go down swinging! Know what I mean?

Sounds good but flip the attack/defense time penalties.
