i thought of this new tech tree that lets you build stations, stations occupy its own unique space called "orbital space" while standard structures like research stations and surface mines occupy "surface space". The larger the planet the more gravity, therefore, its possible for more stations to orbit it. Stations can be targetted and destroyed. That's all i thought up of so far, if dan likes this idea, maybe he'll put it into use. Each planet will have its own "stations tab" and that is where is shows its list of stations, each station acts as a "Guard" (like when you guard an allied planet) to protect the planet, although production stations do not benefit the planets military. Using this tab, the stations targetted this way, each station has its own attack and defence, that will come into play if the stations under attack or if the planets under attack. Defence Stations boosts the planets military defence and attack however, the stations do not benefit each other only itself, therefore an invader can target destroy the individual stations orbiting the planet to increase the chance of an invasion or if the invader is superior enough, he can ignore the stations and just charge in and attack the population.
Becuase of these stations, planets will be be much harder to invade, to balance this, the legion bonus that ups your defence and attack also ups your attack and deefence against stations, so if your in a 50 member legion (100% bonus) you inflict twice as much damage to stations and take twice as less damage (hopefully, Dan raise the member cap to 100 for legions, three times damage to stations). Also, i hope that if your in 100% 50 members legion, itll also add 100% Bonus chance of invasion. To add to that, stations have a build time and up keep cost 5% of its original cost per 24 hours. Stations that are damaged are repaired on this 24 hourly basis, however, each station can be repaired by the owner, every 5 minutes, this timer is for repairing your own and your allied ships.
You Don't have to destroy the stations in order to invade planet.
