The artifact would remove the 20% tax you pay when selling minerals. The effect would last for an entire day and would be very rare, or limited to a certain number of mission completions. An alternative would be to have it available only to the merchant profession, thus making that profession actually useful. Another suggestion to increase their usefulness would be to permanently reduce the tax to 15% for merchants. I wouldn't be surprised if a similar idea has been put forth already.

please check the galaxy legion WIKI before posting something. or ask your legionmates.
there already is an artifact/ability that you receive that drops it to 10% for an hour, usable every 12.

I could see doing something to make more people want to be them.

While on the topic of useless professions, Biologists could use a buff too.

i think a reasonable merchant ability would be to lower the tax by 5% all the time. id almost say go 1/2 tax entirely though.... theres no other benefit to being a merchant, and a builders upkeep reduction counts for only a little less then the tax savings.
so either a 5% flat reduction or half the tax, so 10% until you get the dark aperture key, and they only 5% when thats activated.. honestly, how many merchants do you see at rank 600+
